Why the Level 2 Gym Instructor Course is Your First Step, Even if Gyms Aren’t Your Thing

The Level 2 Gym instructor Course is the starting point for all fitness careers, but it can be confusing to understand why if you want to work outside a gym.

Embarking on a fitness career journey can feel exhilarating yet daunting, especially if the idea of working in a gym doesn’t align with your vision.

You might find yourself questioning why starting with a Gym Instructor Course is necessary, if your dream involves coaching clients in non-traditional settings. Let’s address those concerns and uncover why LEARNING in a gym environment doesn’t mean you have to ONLY use a gym environment later.

Do I need the gym instructor course to work outside of a gym? #gym #fitnesscareer

The Level 2 Gym Instructor Course for Unfamiliar Territory:

The thought of stepping into a gym setting might stir up feelings of uncertainty, especially if you’re not accustomed to gym equipment.

It’s natural to feel a bit lost or out of place initially, but the Level 2 Gym Instructor Course is designed to address these concerns. From familiarizing you with gym equipment to providing guidance on navigating gym spaces, you’ll quickly gain confidence in this new environment.

The Gym as a Launchpad:

While the prospect of training clients solely within a gym might not resonate with you, consider the gym environment as a launchpad for your broader fitness career aspirations.

The Level 2 Gym Instructor Course lays the foundation for essential skills in instructing, planning, and coaching, applicable across all fitness careers. Think of it as acquiring a toolkit that you can later apply outdoors, in client homes, or in other non-gym environments.

Breaking Boundaries:

Your journey doesn’t end at the gym door.

In fact, it’s just the beginning.

There are specialized certifications that equip you to train in other environments…

  • Level 2 Circuits HERE
  • Level 3 Personal Training (PT) HERE
  • Level 3 Long-Term Conditions HERE
  • Level 2 Children Fitness HERE

These certifications equip you with the expertise needed to thrive in outdoor settings, homes, or niche fitness markets.

While it may seem counterintuitive, the Level 2 Gym Instructor Course is the pre-requisite to go onto those courses.

Why Do We Learn In Gym?

A gym is purposefully designed exercise environment. This makes it safe and effective to teach you the foundations of instructing. Gym equipment is also purposefully designed to make it easy to understand and modify.

As a Fitness instructor you’ll need to understand the joint actions and muscles recruited in all exercises. A pre-defined list of set exercises makes this simpler and easier as a starting point. For example you’ll learn that the Bench Press works the Chest and Triceps, but so does the Chest Press Machine, the Cable chest press and a Press Up.

This gives you an exercise library that you can build on. So when you are training clients in a park or at home later you understand the actions needed to recruit certain muscles. You might then choose a TRX chest press or a Kettlebell Floor Press, or an inclined pressup. Your ability to teach these exercises is based on your ability to first teach a simple bench Press in a gym.

You will also need to vary intensity so a client can achieve overload in resistance exercises; and vary intensity on cardiovascular exercises. This can be tricky with some non-gym exerricses. This is another reason why starting in a gym is great for learning how to change variables and manage intensity, before adapting the exercise to a different environment.

Guidance Every Step of the Way:

Feeling overwhelmed or unsure is entirely normal, especially when embarking on a new career path.

Rest assured, we teach the Level 2 Gym Instructor Course without assuming prior knowledge of the gym. That means we’ll show you what to do, and how to do it. You don’t need prior gym experience.

You’ll receive support and guidance every step of the way, ensuring you feel empowered and confident as a fitness instructor

In summary, while the idea of starting your fitness career in a gym setting may seem separate to your dreams… it offers invaluable opportunities for growth and development. It will lay the foundations of your Fitness Career skills

Embrace the gym as your initial stepping stone, knowing that it will equip you with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in any fitness environment.

Your journey begins here, and the possibilities are limitless.
