Stuck on the Health awareness poster? Today we’ll understand how to
- interpret the criteria
- find the answers
- create a poster
- keep it simple
What Is the Gym Instructor Health Awareness Poster?
The Health Awareness Poster is part of your Active IQ Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification and is categorized as an assignment, not a worksheet. This can sometimes make it harder to interpret what’s required, but don’t worry – we’ll break it down step by step.
Step 1: Understanding the Criteria
Unlike other tasks in your course, this assignment asks you to communicate the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and the risks of obesity in a way that speaks directly to clients who are considering lifestyle changes but may not be fully committed yet.
This means your poster needs to be informative, simple, and motivational. It should contain:
- The message: What is your core health message?
- Health risks of obesity: What are the risks of being overweight or obese?
- Prevalence of obesity: Use statistics to highlight the current situation in the UK.
- Benefits of a healthy lifestyle: What can clients gain from making healthier choices?
- Risks of an unhealthy lifestyle: Focus on common medical conditions linked to poor lifestyle choices.
This information needs to be presented in a way that your target audience – the general public – can easily understand and relate to.
Step 2: Finding the Answers for the Gym Instructor Health Awareness Poster
Note: this is accurate at the time of writing (October 2024), and will vary with resource changes and also with training providers and awarding bodies.
All the information you need can be found in your Level 2 Gym Instructor Manual. For the Active IQ qualification, focus on the blue section, page 47 and beyond. This section contains the facts and data you’ll need to design an informative and visually appealing poster.
Remember to use a mix of:
- Images: Visuals are key to drawing attention and making your poster engaging.
- Statistical data: Facts and figures, especially related to the prevalence of obesity in the UK, will add credibility.
- Bullet-point text: Keep your message clear and to the point – this isn’t the place for long paragraphs
Step 3: Choosing the Right Format for the Gym Instructor Health Awareness Poster
One question I often get is, “Which format should I use?” The answer is: it’s up to you! You won’t gain extra marks for using fancy technology, so choose the format that you feel most comfortable with and that you can complete within the time you have available.
Here are a few options:
- Hand-drawn: Perfect if you enjoy sketching and want a personal touch.
- Printed and assembled: You can create sections digitally, print them, and piece them together.
- Word document: A simple and effective option, especially for those with basic Word skills.
- Canva: This free online tool allows you to design professional-looking posters with ease.
- PDF: Create your poster in Word, Google Docs, or Canva, and save it as a PDF for easy submission.
Remember to check with your training provider about how they’d like you to submit your poster – whether that’s via email, upload, or a physical hand-in.
Step 4: Keep It Simple
The most important tip I can give you? Keep it simple. The purpose of this poster is to take complex health topics and make them accessible for your clients. You’re not creating a poster for other trainers or experts – your audience is people who might be new to fitness and healthy living.
The clearer your message, the more effective your poster will be in encouraging lifestyle changes.
