Studying can be hard. It’s all too easy to feel like you’re wading through treacle, and no matter how much time you spend trying to revise, it just doesn’t seem to get any easier.

In today’s video, we are going to share three ingredients that will radically change your revision experience and help make your studies feel effortless again.

This is not just for FITPROs that are revising for their anatomy and physiology exam, but also for those that are already qualified, working towards other qualifications or have been in the industry for years and learn and progress

The best way to make revision feel effortless is by breaking it down into smaller, more manageable chunks.

To do this you can use these three Ws for effortless revision:

The three Ws for effortless revision are:

  • WHAT do you need to learn? This includes understanding the subdivisions of content, deadlines, and what each small revision session should include.
  • WHEN will you revise? This could be a daily or weekly schedule that covers both work and home
  • WHY you are revising? This includes the benefits you gain from revision and how it will help further your career.

1 ) WHAT do I need to revise?

The first of the three Ws is to understand WHAT you need to revise

Revision and learning shouldn’t be random, it is really important that it leads you towards your end outcome

For example, if you are revising for your A&P exam then your revision plan, should include all of 8 modules of content, so you are fully prepared to pass your exam.

If it isn’t an exam that’s coming up soon, make sure your learning and study are leading towards something, which could be completing a worksheet as part of your qualification, or answering a specific client question

Here are three questions to ask yourself:

  • a) WHAT exactly do I need to learn, are there are subdivisions of content?
  • b) What is the deadline to learn everything or how long would it take to revise it all?
  • c) What would I have to learn in each small revision session to continually move towards the end outcome

Use these three questions to understand exactly WHAT you need to do in your revision and get focused

2) WHEN will I revise?

The second of the three Ws is to understand WHEN you will revise.

It is so important to schedule your revision time, rather than leaving it to chance.

This way you know that you have put time aside for your revision, and can use friends and family to help hold you accountable.

Some people find revision more difficult at particular times of the day, so it’s important to understand what time zone you are in and when your brain works best for revision.

This is something that changes over time as we both age and grow, but also with our individual preferences. Some people have a morning routine or work better in the evening with fewer distractions.

This is important because it’s a great thing to have in mind when you are deciding what time of the day will be best for revision.

If you know that your brain works best at night, then make sure those hours are free and clear so they’re not wasted on other activities or distractions.

3) WHY I should be revising?

The third of the three Ws is to understand WHY you should revise in the first place.

It’s important to know why you should be revising and how the content of your learning relates to you as a FITPRO or your development through your career

Revision and learning should not feel like a chore, instead, it should be exciting because it directly achieves the overall outcome.
