Will the client reach their goals, how do I guarantee PT results ?
How do you know your plans are going to work?
This is what one PT in training asked me at the weekend…
How do other personal trainers guarantee their packages will have extraordinary results?
I have another question for you…
1) How often do you read around your PT expertise?
For example, I was chatting with a past learner and now exceptional PT the other day whilst in Milton Keynes delivering our latest PT course. He is getting awesome results with his clients and asked him what the #1 thing that helps him guarantee PT results… and he said!
“I read whenever I can and make it very clear to the client that everything I do is backed up by science, training guidelines and prior results I’ve had with other clients; and I don’t kick start the first session until I am happy I know the direction we are heading”.
This dude went on to say how the training guidelines help him break down a client’s goal by considering any training contraindications, fitness testing and basic periodisation.
We know from learning as a PT we can break down a clients goal into SMART. But do you still use SMART or at very least use any type of goal setting to manage their client.
If I don’t help the client set a Specific goal, I cant measure it.
If I don’t measure it, I cant manage the client,
If I can measure or manage the client, how do I know if the goal is achievable?
If I am unaware if the goal is achievable, how can I support the client to the goal in realistic time frames and realistic periodised steps?
If I don’t do any of the above… well the time frame is one big guess I suppose.
Which in turn means, the client is less likely to fully commit 110% to the programme, miss sessions, miss payments and overall not really enjoy the process of working towards a new version of themselves.
Whats more, if they do reach the goal [eventually] it probably wont last long before they slip into the old habits again… Why!
They didn’t learn how to.
See, a structured plan and package guides and shows the client how to maintain, tweak and continue their new set version of them for the rest of their life.
2) Just one Superhero power
So when you qualify as a personal trainer you hold a serious amount of knowledge. But this knowledge is still spread across many subject areas within PT.
You MUST remember Why you decided to firstly pursue fitness and also make it your profession.
For some its their love of running, others being being behind a bar and lifting heavy shit, but nearly for all, it’s the want and drive to help people make a change.
It’s this change you MUST dial into…
What is the niche change you are the expert in? This is the one thing you can guarantee PT results for. It’s this you can package up and drive your PT business into 2016.
Oh, and read around.
Said differently, if you had a PT super power, what would that super power be? What one thing can are you the super hero of?
Now you know you must continue to learn and read heavily around your PT super hero powers.
This is what Batman does right….
3) After all, the more you learn the more you earn!
Earn the money, earn the clients to train, earn the emotion you first set out to achieve and help people….
See, most PTs offer a very basic service…
This is OK,
But you cant complain if you attract high maintenance clients,
Clients that don’t show up to sessions and clients that take months to adhere and make any changes.
This clients are hard to plan for, after all… will they even show up to the next session.
Would you agree that a super hero whereby one of there powers is reading, provides more than a basic service?
Take Superman for example, he provides an exceptional service. Even his alter ego Clark Kent shows up with a unique set of journalist skills bringing the ‘Truth’ to the forefront of the news!
This is how we must act with our clients.
We must use our personal trainer qualification to dial into the PT super power and provide an exceptional service.
For example, if you became a PT because of you love for running then you must read around running like its an addiction. Now you can use this knowledge to package up a unique service to truly guarantee PT results , phenomenal results, with clients within running.
As a PT super hero for running you must dial this power in more.
For example, On Monday just gone on our SP1 day, one of the learners who is an ultra-marathon runner dialed in her super hero powers. No only is she a running expert, she ha been vegan all her life and only eats whole food.
This makes her super hero power… a Vegan wholefood ultra-runner specialist.
Very different to a client that wants to achieve their first 5km run and shed a little bit of timber!
This would be like Superman getting in the bat-mobile. They don’t share tools and powers. They are not a generalist, they are a specialists.
So lets wrap this up and put it to bed…
A basic service usually includes, 2 to 3 sessions per week, a basic nutrition plan and motivation to get the goal.
A PT super hero like the vegan ultra runner above, I’m gonna list not even half the services she is including in her PT packages:
- Semi private training.
- training plans for self guided sessions
- training plans to beat PBs
- training plans for busy commuting clients
- Nutrition plans
- Vegan nutrition online webinars
- Recipe books
- pre/post and during race day nutrition seminars
- Clothing and footwear guidance
- Navigation and orientation guidance
- Closed accountability group
- Organised events
- and the list goes on….
See, this dialed in PT super hero now has to continue reading and maintaining being the expert in her running niche.
She can now plan in micro detail, pass on a huge level of education to the client, engage them with unlimited levels of motivation and empowerment.
Which in turn allow her to guarantee the goal will be achieved.
She has literally taken care of everything and tied up all the loose ends that could possible detract from the client achieving their goal.
Finally, when she dialed this in on Monday, she not only listed the package features, but also explored the benefits of each. Now she can truly pitch her package to her running community and they will automatically see the value she bring as a PT super hero. She can guarantee PT results
See Super Heroes, bring constant value to the world…. PT super heroes do the same.
They bring never ending amounts of value to the fitness market….
So my final question is…
How much value do you bring to the market? Are you a PT super hero with dialed powers?
The more value you bring the more guaranteed you can be on your planning, packages and results.
Until next time
