This appears in the level 3 nutrition exam, so it’s important to know the difference between HDLs and LDLs.
HDLs are High Density Lipoproteins. They transport fats around the body and are Happy to Help… they work like street cleaners tidying up fats and plaques that have been laid down along the arteries.
LDLs are Low Density Lipoproteins. They transport fats around the body but are Litter bugs, and leave the fatty deposits all around the arteries. This builds up to cause atherosclerosis.
The ratio between HDLs and LDLs is crucial in avoiding atherosclerosis and associated health conditions.
