Most people think Leptin and Ghrelin are opposites, and although one increases hunger and one decreases hunger they are not direct opposites!
What are Leptin and Ghrelin?
Leptin is Long Term based on fat mass. The more fat mass you have (as long as your not leptin resistant ) the more leptin reduces your hunger. This works as an effective means to maintain our healthy weight. However, some clients will be leptin Resistant, which means their body has stopped listening to the Leptin; so regardless of the fat mass, the hormones are driving to eat more and more.
Ghrelin is a short term gremlin it increases huge and cravings based on food eaten. You can help your clients ward off feelings of insatiable hunger by encouraging well spaced meals that have plentiful amounts of protein, fats and fibre.
